Not all of them; by old privileges, Worshipful Companies of Vintners and Dyers claim ownership of some of the swans. Once a year they mark "their" ones, traditionally by making one (Dyers) or two (Vintners) nicks on beak (nowadays they use rings instead).
This can't be real. You're telling me there's actual people whose job is to put rings on swans. Wow
