I need some #photography advice.
I purchased an EOS 7S/30v body on eBay from Japan. The camera seems to be fully operational and powers on just fine, however the "date" screen, does come on. I have obviously put a new CR2505 battery in the compartment. Nothing happens when I press the mode button either. Does the screen only come on when film is loaded in the camera? Can anyone on the #Fediverse help with this? Any advice would be much appreciated.

I thought as a (German and white) visitor I'm gonna be fine.
Border and customs protection took my phone, forced me to unlock it and stole god knows what data from it. The agent was powertripping and made sure to let me know that I am powerless and he can just send me home or do godknowswhat to me.
He directly said "if you're annoying I'm just sending you home".
Apparently my trans ass was part of a "random search". Lol.
I'm fine now and with Lexi luckily. I don't know what kind of malware is on my phone, or what they took from it. I've been crying all throughout my connecting flight.
This place is a dystopian shithole. Please don't go here.

Car deaths in Sweden are steadily going down. Same in many other places.
In the US deaths were going down until maybe ten years ago, then they started going up again. Covid provided a brief pause in car death increases.

I've been cooking a theory for a while now that conservatives need to paint themselves as the underdog of the story (despite more or less greater proximity to wealth and power) because *all* of our good guys these days are underdogs. A thousand years ago, the good guys were might-makes-right kings and gods who were seen as noblev simply by being kings and gods.
Now that (most of) society has rejected obvious authoritarianism, authoritarians need to wear grey sweats and jog up the stairs to the Philadelphia Museum of Art like Rocky to demonstrate that they are 'just like you and me', because otherwise they would look a lot like most of our modern fiction's villains...

I think that's a good guess. My instinct is it may be related to christianity itself, where virtue comes from being a victim and sacrificing, maybe? Before then I can't think of many inversions, other than perhaps Prometheus, and he was quite an ambiguous hero.

So, one problem I have is making screenshots for the Renga #XMPP client. I don't want to use random existing chatrooms to have some interesting things going on in the chat window. I need some fake accounts and fake content (that would also make for more intriguing screenshots).

the "friendzone" is sexist bullshit propagated by men that can't cope with not any and every woman they set their eyes on automatically responding favorably to their wishes.
I've had crushes on straight AND gay friends, and simply felt bad for a while that they were unavailable, and was able to move on with my life and still kept being friends with them for *years*.

For me, right to to repair isn't just about ewaste, and preventing corporate gouging.
It's about mental health. Being able to fix your gadgets is therapeutic. Empowering. Good for the soul.
In a world full of complex technology it's easy to feel small and helpless. And maybe I'm too much of an idealist, but I think that if everyone could experience the joy of fixing or modifying a gadget now and then we'd all be a little more open minded, a little more daring. A little harder to push around.
It's about mental health. Being able to fix your gadgets is therapeutic. Empowering. Good for the soul.

Copyrights and patents as written into the U.S. Constitution don't--it's this infernal Microsoft invention called "intellectual property" that is the creativity killer, and you can thank the judge who judged wrongly on the Apple vs Microsoft case about Windows for that crap. There was no such thing as "intellectual property" at that time but there is now because Microsoft didn't want any other company to rip it off like it ripped off Apple.
