Reminder that “generations” discourse is a capitalist psyop designed to drive wedges between you and your fellow older/younger comrade.
You have more in common with “boomer” workers than “millennial” landlords or “gen z” side-hustle scammers.

@Esther Schindler Mine aren't obsolete, the issue is you never know when you might find something useful in the trash that needs a specific power cord like I did with my electric piano and Tv. they are rarely used but really useful when you need them
Question for any sysadmins out there, that learned Python... how much of a cost/benefit did you get from switching to it from shell for scripting? Are the pros enough for the effort entailed (I understand this of course depends on each person's needs... but u know)?

it really depends on the context. Bash is basically universal, which is nice. But complex bash scripts are unmaintainable - the language simply isn't made for actual programming. There's a place for each of them, I think.
for me ut is complexity based; my maxim is “use the smallest tool that succinctly solves the problem “. So sed awk shell python. Ish. So when things become cumbersome in shell, use python. I have a lot of each, but the complex stuff is python.

@Mauve yeah. those things are (apparently) reserved for Fortune authors and editors after they have their capacity for empathy toward the working class lobotomized.

Signs you have carpenter #ants
* keep finding tiny tools
* city sends a very tiny permit to affix to baseboard
* when you try to move a book you are told to “keep this entrance clear, ma’am” because of the “cement delivery coming later”
* Your dish rack is dismantled “because it’ll be cheaper to rebuild from scratch”
* no room on the dresser due to like 85 tiny pickups illegally parked there
* husband keeps hearing high pitched wolf whistles when exiting shower

The fact that many websites are no longer automatically enabling the newsletter signup checkbox when logging in or filling out other forms is nice, but at that point just remove the damn thing, I don't know a single person who voluntarily signs up for corporate newsletters as a customer.
If you must have a newsletter, put it somewhere on your site that only people who care go. Like the bottom bar, or the contact page, or even the "about us" page.

Once again, I forget where I heard it but it totally stuck with me: someone once mentioned we're like the canaries in the mine for the #workplace. If the #neurodovergent employees don't thrive, likely your NT's could be doing/feeling better too!

some people don’t want to climb the corporate ladder, even if they used to.
some people don’t want to go “above and beyond.”
some people want less responsibility, not more.
some people want to do the job they were hired to do and be done.
there is *nothing* wrong with this.
we need to normalize language like this. you don’t have to work 90 hours a week to be “dedicated.” you don’t have to love your job. you CAN be in it just for the paycheck. that’s literally what a job is: payment for services.
this rhetoric of “what success looks like” is a falsity we have been tricked into believing to maximize corporate profits. success looks different depending on who and when you ask… sometimes success is getting up in the morning, and sometimes it’s getting promoted. it’s all relative, and we need to remember that.

I keep finding sudo su in server's command history 😱
Please stop doing sudo su. You're supossed to use sudo -i (or -s) if you want a shell

Studies show:
- greater moral fortitude
- not being influenced by group in polling situation
- non-heuristic thinking
- not being influenced by advertising
- not lying for gain
in autistics. And here is the nutty thing. They are described as deficits of 'Theory of mind'.
The studies are linked in the post below.
