To most people, allyship or even any basic form of solidarity is a chore they were pressured into when being openly hateful fell out of fashion, and they have never forgiven marginalised people for the fact that their peers tsk'ed them when they used slurs.
Once you view the world through this lens, everything starts making a whole lot more sense.

Cool, the Reddit CEO straight up said he was inspired by Musk, if that's any indication for the future of the platform: https://nitter.net/MattBinder/status/1669800835843235845

Yep, Reddit is gonna be falling down the tubes. It's over. Unfortunately, this means getting the content I want is gonna be fucking hard now.
when you think you may help fix infra-as-code and promote clean practices at a place... and then realize there's a repo where more than one person push directly to master, the commits show in Gitlab to be all by user "Jenkins" (yes, jenkins has *write access* to master) since they all seem to be working out of jenkins' home in a server, which is a mess of local modifications and untracked files... and the commit summaries are all *literally* dots (.)
and all this in full knowledge of management who basically says "yeah we know it's a mess but *shrugs* "
😰
maybe I should stop lying to myself...

Earlier this year we got into a surprising and somewhat annoying struggle with Web browser sandboxing failures related to our "web apps shared in a chat" feature. After much background work we released the hardened Delta Chat 1.36 series, also addressing a dedicated fourth independent security audit, and can finally share more of what was going on behind the scenes https://delta.chat/en/2023-05-22-webxdc-security

Any meaningful UX testing in 2023 needs to account for ad blockers and password managers.
If your site or app doesn’t work with popular ad blockers, or it refuses to allow logins pasted in from password managers, it’s broken.
Yes, some executive type will want to argue about this because they think ad blocking will go away or they misunderstood some now outdated infosec guidance. They’re wrong. Users use ad blockers and password managers and if your stuff doesn’t work with them, it’s broken.

⚠️Google is waging war on the FOSS Aurora Store⚠️
Aurora is a staple tool for people looking to de-google their Android devices. Currently, the anonymous login functionality is broken (unclear if intentional by Google) - and they’re now deleting some Google accounts used through Aurora. Proceed with caution, spread the word, and support the Aurora project if you’re able 🚀 More info: https://discuss.techlore.tech/t/aurora-store-anonymous-logins-are-removed-indefinitely/3817/12

I wish I was more optimistic about large language models, but everything I’m seeing at the moment leads me to think that the best case scenario is a massive acceleration of Silicon Valley’s worst instincts and an ongoing degradation of our software ecosystem.

The most common gender affirming surgery is breast augmentation -- in cis (non-trans) women.
The regret rate is around 20%.
Gender affirming surgeries in trans people have around a 1% regret rate.

A perfect example of how delusion turns off the brain. It is precisely because there is psychological assistance before gender affirming surgery that holds the number of people who regret their decision afterwards low. Because those who would regret it are selected through psychological care beforehand. Beside of this: plastic surgery is promoted by social media. Hence, after a few years more people regret it because they succumbed to a hype.

Chances are most of you know about some big names in #OpenSource and #Privacy, but there’s one FOSS champion you might not know: @Framasoft
They offer a bunch of services that are all open source, free to use, collect no data whatsoever, and that can help you replace some of big tech’s services. And a lot of them don’t even require an account!
So, let’s look at who they are, what they do, and the services you can use from them!

so they made wtach the (latest) Mario movie, which I didn't want to.
I'll say that the worst part about it is just how generic, bland, and mediocre it is. it seems whoever made this has no idea what the appeal of Mario is. there is barely a story, they just vomit fanservice on the screen nonstop, moving from frantic set piece to frantic set piece of vaguely Mario-world inspired areas, with no regards whatsoever to whether anything of what is happening makes sense.
even the fanservice is all wrong, it all goes by so fast that you have no time to see it
I heard it sucked but it was even more disappointing than I expected.

caution: Mg. Tully is at large likes this.
the only part I liked was the kooky Luma in the dungeon cage. because there, they were having fun and actually doing something with it, instead of simply reproducing franchise iconography with somewhat better graphics. you can tell they knew it was the single good, memorable, actually fun idea they had, since they used her for the post-credit thing as well.

Today is Agender Pride Day! Agender is a term used to refer to people who do not identify with any specific gender or may also feel a lack of gender 🖤🩶🤍💚
Agender identities are often underrepresented and misrepresented, so let's clear some things up... 🧵
Agender people do not identify as either a man or a woman, this is why the term often falls within the non-binary/trans umbrella. This doesn't mean all agender people identify as trans or non-binary.

The agender community can also be described as gender-neutral or genderless.
They're free from the constraints of gender itself. It's about having an identity that has nothing to do with gender and its associated social norms.
You do not need to use gender-neutral pronouns to describe yourself. Agender identities are valid no matter your pronouns.

My current history headcanon is that dry humor was invented by #autistic people who grew up completely confused as to why people were laughing at them so often, but decided it was a good thing and made it their life mission to become Really Really Good at it.

The thing about being a trans woman is that growing up, all the boys around me knew I wasn't one of them.
Nobody ever called me a man until they realized they could hurt a woman by doing so.

Look y'all. I'm not saying there aren't things that are problematic (in terms of violence, misogyny, LGBTQ+phobia, capitalism) in hip hop, and other parts of Black culture. I'm not insane.
What I'm saying is, those same elements are in all parts of white culture as well, because America - like all modern political systems - glorifies violence, misogyny, LGBTQ+phobia, and capitalism.
Don't judge Black culture more harshly than you judge white culture for doing the exact same things. That's it.

@jec a 3rd party provider should not be collecting SSO passwords for business customers, but the login page can’t know which SSO to use until it has the username. AFAIK the options are the two-step process or have a separate login page for every customer org. What better way do you know of?
@ShadSterling idk, maybe make the password field appear after you type the username if it applies, while remaining on the same page? there are literal 3D games that run in browsers, you can't tell me this is some sort of insurmountable and very special problem that precludes a saner UI. there are people whose actual jobs is to answer questions like yours. I'm not an expert, I'm just making an educated guess.

Remember folks that advertising is a net negative social good. The "trickle down-esque" argument is that it connects people with goods and services that they might need. The reality is that it induces artificial needs. And makes people feel worse about their current reality.
One of those unmitigated evils that's just part of modern society because it makes corporations money. And in the era of the internet, it is a scalable, targeted, personalized evil.
